How did the events of the Cold War impact American Foreign policy and culture?

Posted by admin on May 8th, 2010 and filed under events | 1 Comment »

I need a least 3 events for foreign policy and 2-3 events for culture!
I know all the stuff about the Cold war I just can’t figure out what are some specific events. Please help?

    Hello there
    I am the surfer

The new danger posed by soviet union was a shocking awakening for american public opinion

1.) The realization that soviet espionage stole american atom bomb was the signal of "Friend" now public enemy ( korean war and early 50´s)
2.) The berlin airlift : (1947) the soviet closed all surface access to berlin , so the newly independent air force was tested, the mighty air force ( not cocky marines) was able to supply 1,5 million civilians with out a single shot fired ! the air force effort was the new signal of new american role of western leadership! the us air force was able to carry the public message , failure meant no one was to stop soviet aggression and america lost face to every one
3.) The korean war . (1950 – 1953) 50 ,000 dead and wounded to save a country no one cared or knew about, yet because of that today south korea is a free democracy producing cars , not communism , bicycles , rice paddies and prison camps
    4) Cuban crises (1962) : american public and armed forces realized cold war had reached their back yard! that american proximity was not so safe ground any more!
    5) The space race the technological prowess (1960´s) to bring a man to the moon (20 july, 1969) in the "name of science" was a great feat to defeat soviet science, industrial strength and space leadership
    6) Vietnam war (early 60´s- late 70´s) : the failure of vietnam meant open public and political distrust against the white house and the military and a lost of face of usa military supremacy!
    7) The installation of defense systems around mayor cities like san francisco (lovely city by the way!) meant that nike and ajax anti ballistic missiles signaled to people that they were not safe, that war had reached their door step ( that was by early 70´s)
    8) So as a consequence every family that could started to build secret anti missile silos at home inside their basement, nuclear bomb paranoia reached american minds !
    9) The white house built several new facilities (such a construction programme started early 50´s) ) to counter atom bombs
so new military expending meant a new surge of military capabilities and defense systems , that money was badly needed to make roads, hospitals, school for children, that military money was better devoted to health care and pension benefits and to fight poverty
    10) Domestic espionage : (started during the late 60´s) every one who oppose white house was considered communist spy, agitator and political enemy ( remember the fight for civil rights or the fight for unions and labor rights was seen as communism subversion)
    11) Domestic espionage cia and nsa were tasked to spy on american civilians suspected of communist sympathy for their political opinions
    12) Military technology and civilian benefits (the whole cold war) the same industry that helped the military get the upper hand contributed for civilian benefits examples cars . the same factories that produced military jeeps and trucks sold those to private sector and civilians.
Nuclear power and radiation nuclear power to produce bombs was used to heal cancer with radiation. the same engines to produce military planes was also used to produce civilian planes to expand aviation travel industry. Rockets satellites and bombs also carry cnn satellites signal to watch news from around the world..

    There you go

What kind of events can I plan or attend to promote Christian Fellowship amongst men?

Posted by admin on May 7th, 2010 and filed under events | 2 Comments »

I have recently been thrusted into the position of Event Coordinator for our Men’s Ministry at church. Although I am terribly excited about this I am also very nervous. Does anyone have any ideas for me on either planning events or attending them? I am expected to plan one event every two months. I was born and raised in Miami, FL. but am now living in Morgantown, WV so please keep the landscape in mind.

How about attending a "Promise Keepers" conference? It may be out of town or in town, but it may give a opportunity for the men in the group to know each other better, while see the larger number Christian men that are out there.
