We want to stay in Rome between 12-15 April and we wonder if shops, museums and restaurants will be open?
The Orthodox in the eastern part of Europe celebrate Easter a week later than the Catholics. Since Italy is a Catholic country and in Western Europe, I believe it is on the 12th of April like the USA.
From my experience living in Europe during Easter, the stores and shops ARE open during the holidays. Even on New Years Day. Its only on Christmas that you’ll find stores closed.

Im writing a paper, and need some interesting / out of the ordinary / crazy art museums. It doesn’t matter where they are. IM just writing my paper over them. Im not looking for the usual museums that have the normal paintings and sculptures, but just different kinds of art museums. Thank you!

I will be on Pa, and Ohio this coming week and am contemplating visiting a creationist museum.
Being an atheist, I was going to just avoid creationist museums as place to visit.
But, there may come a time in, hopefully my life time, when that fraudulent science industry may go bankrupt and only exist in real museums that have exhibitions about the absurdity of religion.
Does anyone have info about creationist museums in Penn and Ohio?
ROFL. There is one in Akron, Ohio. The Akron Fossils & Science Center and Truassic Park http://www.akronfossils.com/index.html

My parents are considering selling a valuable painting to avoid having to cover the insurance on it. I would prefer to keep it in the family — does anyone know about lending paintings to museums?
How it works and if they cover the insurance on them?
If not museums anyone know anything else on how to reduce these costs?
Thank You!!
I really don’t know what type of insurance Museums carry but if they have "bailees" coverage, it covers property of others while in their care, custody and control. I would ask the museum. I’m sure they would be glad to answer that part of your question.
Reducing cost is another matter. It it a very valuable painting, and I’m assuming it is based on our question, I wouldn’t try to cut corners in order to save a few bucks. You can insure it only against certain named perils, but if something outside of those perils happens, the painting wouldn’t be covered. For instance, if you didn’t cover it for theft and it was stolen, it wouldn’t be covered.
If you want to keep it in the family, why not volunteer to help defray the cost of insurance. Chip in and it would allow them to keep the painting so that you could one day have the burden of insuring it. lol

I had read awhile ago about someone who had purchased an annual membership that gave them admittance to multiple museums across the US. Does anyone know where that can be purchased? For example, I’d like to go to museums this next year in SF and NYC and pay just one membership fee. Thanks.
Many museums offer what is called a reciprocal membership. It will allow for free admission to other museums.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC has reciprocal admission to certain museums (click link, it’s a long list) with $60 membership fee:
http://www.metmuseum.org/member/me_reciprocal.htm
The MOMA also has member ship for $60 and up, but I couldn’t find anythign about reciprocal admission, although I figure it’s worth a call to them since there is the SFMOMA.

Enjoy!
I have a Canon SD1100 IS, and I wanted to know what would be a good setting to use, to take pictures in museums? I know some museums don’t allow flash photography, so any advice on how to get a decent to good picture would be nice.
Sorry if someone else already asked this question.
First make sure image stablisation is turned on. Try using auto mode this will probably be ok for most situations.
The manual mode on that camera does not give much flexibility. Although it will allow you to set the ISO, try setting the ISO to 400 or even 800. This will means you will trade a little noise in the photo for a shorter exposure time. Best to experiment with ISO settings before you go to the museum so that you know what works best with your camera.
Some other tips, when shooting a object in a glass display case try and get the lens as close as possible to the case, this will cut down on the reflections from the glass. Also wearing a black t-shirt can help cut down reflections.
